When Brenna Morgan was three years old, she saw a pair of silver tap shoes in a display case and was instantly convinced she had to have them. After some sad eyes and a little pouting, she managed to persuade her mother to buy them for her, but there was a catch. Brenna could only wear her shoes at tap dancing classes. So, the youngster poured her little heart into learning how to tap if only so she could wear her silver shoes.
The Rubber DuckyAt the end of the year, when the class recital came, the instructor decided to do a routine around the old Sesame Street song “Rubber Ducky.” For her part, little Brenna had to dress up in a ducky costume—which meant, of course, she couldn’t wear her silver shoes. Broken hearted, little Brenna would never tap again and to this day, the whereabouts of the silver shoes are unknown.
While Brenna may have lost the silver shoes, she never lost her love of dance. Instead of tap, she poured all her passion into ballet. She excelled in high school and won the lead in the school’s ballet performance her senior year. She even trained at the School of the Hartford Ballet in Connecticut and entertained the possibility of turning pro. To this day, when this driven professional isn’t busy helping her clients, she enjoys taking a ballet class to stay in shape.
Always On Her Toes
Even though she’s not always on a dance floor, you could say that Brenna has always been on her toes—whether it was as a high school honor student and captain of her cheerleading squad, earning a degree in elementary education from UNC, and especially while designing a curriculum to challenge her gifted students during her career as a teacher. Brenna loved working with her students and it warmed her heart every time they had an “a-ha!” moment—that instant when her lessons crystallized in their minds and they understood, their eyes alight with the newfound knowledge. Brenna derived tremendous satisfaction in empowering them with those gifts.
